Unfleeced — free days out, real costs

About this project

Free entry should not come with a surprise bill.

Unfleeced finds genuinely free places across the USA, then looks beyond the entrance gate. Parking, food, tolls and optional extras can turn a supposedly free day into an expensive one, so we show what is known and say plainly when a cost still needs checking.

What “verified” means

A verified card has an official city, government, university or venue source supporting free general admission. Resident-only, member-only, child-only and occasional free-day offers do not count as genuinely free general entry.

What “Live OSM” means

Live OpenStreetMap suggestions help cover cities that have not yet received full editorial research. They are clearly labelled and are never presented as source-verified recommendations. Check current access and local notices before travelling.

Parking: known or unknown

We only print a parking price—or call parking free—when a dependable source supports it. “Parking unchecked” is deliberate, not a coy way of saying free. Downtown garages, beaches and event days are the first places where charges can change.

How the site may earn

Unfleeced may test clearly labelled links for useful paid extras such as parking reservations or accommodation. A commercial relationship will never turn a paid attraction into a “free” recommendation or decide which place receives verified status.
